Уильям Теккерей «Carlyle’s "French Revolution"»
Примечание:
«Times», 1837, August 3 (reprinted in Works).
In his review of Carlyle's French Revolution Thackeray praises the author for possessing «most extraordinary powers — learning, observation, and humour» and highly commends him for successfully evoking the sombre atmosphere of the period and giving it «reality», «that gloomy, rough, Rembrandt-kind of reality which is Mr. Carlyle's style of historic painting».
